“Seraphina Shen is the youngest and most promising cold beauty in the judicial world, with a record of never losing a case”
Chapter 1
New York First Intermediate People's Court.
Seraphina Shen wore a crisp black lawyer's uniform, her dark long hair tied low behind her head, her gaze cold as frost. She pushed the gold-rimmed glasses on the bridge of her nose, her voice clear and powerful:
"In summary, the defendant Julian Foster's behavior has constituted a serious violent threat. Our side requests the court to impose severe punishment."
In the corner of the courtroom, Julian Foster sat on a chair, his posture as lazy as if he were in his own garden. Two buttons of his black shirt were undone, revealing a small section of explosive collarbone. Hearing Seraphina's words, he slowly raised his head, his eyes revealing a beast-like madness and playfulness.
"Severe punishment?" he repeated softly, the voice low as if whispering in her ear.
During the recess, Seraphina was washing her hands in the restroom when Julian's aggressive face suddenly appeared in the mirror.
"Lawyer Shen, you have a lot of courage." Julian walked over, directly blocking her between the sink and his chest.
Seraphina's back was against the counter, her gaze still calm, "Mr. Foster, please behave yourself. This is a court."
"Court?" Julian leaned down, his slender fingers gliding over her cheek, bringing a burst of trembling, "Seraphina, do you know what the final end is for women like you who dare to shout against me in my territory?"
"I don't think I need to know."
"You will know." Julian suddenly gripped the back of her head, forcing her to look straight into his eyes, "Next Wednesday, that's your doomsday. But before that, I'll let you first learn how to be obedient in my Foster family."
That evening, Seraphina was forcibly taken away by a black car on her way home.
When she opened her eyes again, she was already in a luxurious yet gloomy villa halfway up the mountain.
Julian sat by the bed, playing with a sharp knife in his hand, his gaze paranoid, "Lawyer Shen, welcome to your new 'cage'."
Chapter 2
When Seraphina Shen woke up from the darkness, she found her hands tied behind her back to the headboard, and her eyes covered with a layer of black silk.
The air was filled with the faint scent of whiskey and high-end tobacco.
"Julian Foster, I know it's you." Seraphina's voice was cold. Despite the panic in her heart, she still maintained her calmness as a lawyer, "Kidnapping a public official is a serious crime. You're seeking your own death."
"Serious crime?" Julian's low and wicked laughter came from her ear. His warm breath puffed against her neck, bringing a burst of trembling numbness.
"Lawyer Shen, in New York, I, Julian Foster, am the law."
The silk was pulled off.
Seraphina squinted her eyes, dazzled by the strong light. When she saw the surrounding environment clearly, she couldn't help but gasp. This was not a detention center, nor a warehouse, but a bedroom luxurious to the point of madness.
Julian sat opposite her, shaking a glass of dark liquid in his hand. Three buttons of his black shirt were undone, revealing a small section of tight chest muscle.
"Seraphina, the way you testified against me in court was truly charming." Julian walked over, his slender fingers picking up her chin, "But unfortunately, you chose the wrong opponent."
"What do you want?"
"I don't want anything." Julian leaned down, a flash of crazy possessiveness in his eyes, "I'm short of a private lawyer. From today on, you stay here. When you've learned how to help me clear my name, then you can consider leaving."
"That's impossible!"
"In my dictionary, there is no such thing as impossible." Julian suddenly reached out and gripped the back of her head, and under that cold moonlight, forcibly kissed her lips.
It was a kiss full of aggression and punishment.
Seraphina struggled frantically, but was held down firmly under him.
"Seraphina, remember this moment. From now on, you are my, Julian Foster's, private property. Even if it's hell, you have to go down with me."
Chapter 3
In the following days, Seraphina Shen became a "canary" in the Foster family villa.
Julian Foster gave her extreme luxury but not the right to step out of the door.
"Julian, I want to see my client." Seraphina stood at the study door, her tone stiff.
Julian was sitting behind the mahogany desk handling gang affairs, and without raising his head, he said, "Your client is only me now. Lawyer Shen, instead of worrying about others, better worry about your 'work' tonight."
He was referring to that near-predatory pleasure every night.
Seraphina bit her teeth, "Julian, you're committing a crime."
"Crime?" Julian finally looked up, his dark eyes full of mockery, "Seraphina, how many of those judges sitting in court do you think are clean? This world never talks about law, only about power."
He stood up and walked to her, directly pushing her against the wall.
"And I am the power."
He reached out and tore open her shirt, his movements rough and direct.
Seraphina looked at his cold face, her heart full of despair. She was originally New York's most dazzling legal star, but now she had become this mafia prince's plaything.
But the vulnerability he occasionally showed startled her.
During that high fever, he tightly gripped her hand, shouting a name: "Seraphina, don't leave me..."
Seraphina froze. How did he know her nickname?
Had they met before?
Chapter 4
Julian Foster's possessiveness had reached a point of insanity.
Even if Seraphina Shen just took an extra look at the bodyguard in the garden from the balcony, that bodyguard would be transferred out of New York the next day.
"Julian, what exactly are you afraid of?" Seraphina looked at the man sitting on the sofa wiping a handgun.
Julian stopped his movement, a flash of gloom in his eyes, "I'm afraid you'll escape. Seraphina, do you know, to get you, I waited for ten whole years."
"Ten years?" Seraphina looked at him in disbelief.
"Ten years ago, in that explosion, you were the one who pulled me out of the ruins." Julian walked over, his fingertip gliding over that almost invisible scar of hers, "At that time you said you wanted to be a lawyer in the future and catch all those bad people."
He curled his lips mockingly, "But you didn't expect that the little boy with a face full of blood back then would eventually become the kind of person you hate most, right?"
A blurry figure instantly flashed in Seraphina's mind.
So, he was the one from back then...
"So you use this way to repay me?" Seraphina let out a cold laugh.
"No." Julian suddenly reached out and embraced her waist, bringing her into his arms, "I want to hide you. This world is too dirty, Seraphina, you are so clean, you should stay under my wings and go nowhere."
He leaned down and fiercely kissed the side of her neck, leaving a deep red mark.
"Seraphina, you are mine, mine even in death."
Chapter 5
Seraphina Shen was not someone who would just wait for death.
In the process of helping Julian Foster organize information, she quietly noted the passwords for several core accounts of the Foster family.
"Lawyer Shen, what are you doing?" Julian had appeared outside the study door at some point, his gaze deep.
Seraphina closed the computer without changing her expression, "Looking at your files. Since you want me to help clear your name, I have to find some evidence."
Julian walked over, stared into her eyes for a while, and suddenly laughed.
"Seraphina, don't play tricks with me. Your little thoughts can't be hidden from me."
He leaned down and directly lifted her onto the desk. Those expensive documents scattered all over the floor.
"Julian, what are you doing!"
"You." Julian's voice was low and crazy, "Lawyer Shen, since you like looking at evidence so much, let's create some 'living' evidence."
He frantically demanded from her, as if venting some kind of insecurity.
Seraphina bit her teeth hard, not letting herself make any sound. She knew Julian was afraid.
He was afraid she would leave, afraid that this forced relationship would collapse at any time.
Late that night, Seraphina took advantage of Julian's drunkenness to secretly copy the data on the hard drive and send it to an anonymous reporting email.
She originally thought this was her only chance to gain freedom.
Chapter 6
After the reporting letter was sent, the Foster family indeed fell into quite a bit of trouble.
But what Seraphina Shen didn't expect was that Julian Foster actually traced it to her in the first instance.
"Seraphina, you really have guts."
Julian sat on the sofa, playing with a stack of printed email screenshots, his gaze cold enough to make one suffocate. He emitted a sense of madness on the verge of collapse.
"Julian, I said I would personally send you to prison." Seraphina held her head high, no hint of retreat in her eyes.
Julian suddenly laughed, the laughter shrill and desolate. He stood up abruptly, pinched her neck, and pinned her against the windowsill.
"Send me to prison? Seraphina, do you know how many dirty things I've handled for you behind your back all these years to keep your lawyer title?"
"What do you mean?"
"Those assassins who were originally going to kill you, those politicians who tried to destroy your career... they are all lying underground now!" Julian's voice roared, his eyes blood-red, "You think you could really survive until now with your little bit of law? In New York, without me, Julian Foster, you, Seraphina Shen, would have long become a cold corpse!"
He let go of his hand and sat on the floor despondently.
"Get out. Seraphina, you won."
Seraphina looked at this man who was always lawless, but now looked like a child abandoned by the whole world, curled up in the corner, his body trembling slightly.
At that moment, the defense line in her heart completely collapsed.
Chapter 7
Seraphina Shen did not leave.
She stayed in the Foster mansion and personally helped Julian Foster handle that legal crisis.
"Lawyer Shen, you are knowingly breaking the law." Julian looked at the woman sitting opposite him helping him draft the defense speech, his gaze complex.
"Julian, I'm just repaying a debt." Seraphina didn't raise her head, "Repaying you for saving my life ten years ago."
"Just a life?"
Seraphina stopped her pen and looked up at him, "Julian, don't push your luck."
Julian walked over, embraced her from behind, his face against her neck, "Seraphina, as long as you don't leave, I can clean up the Foster family, I can take you away from New York, to anywhere you want to go."
"Clean up? Julian, you're in too deep."
"For you, I can crawl out."
In the following month, Julian really started to reorganize the family industry, cutting off all those bloody businesses.
He was using his way, trying to get closer to Seraphina's clean world.
But those former enemies did not intend to let him go.
That day, Seraphina was forcibly taken away by a group of people at the door of the law firm.
"Julian Foster, if you want your woman's life, exchange it for the Foster family's account books!"
The moment Julian received the call, his whole person completely fell into madness.
Chapter 8
Seraphina Shen was locked in a cold and damp basement.
"Julian, don't come over..." She heard the dense gunshots outside.
Julian Foster broke in alone, covered in blood, holding a rifle that had already run out of bullets. He was like a demon crawling out of hell, every step carrying a suffocating pressure.
"Seraphina!"
He rushed over, forcefully untying the ropes on her hands.
"Julian, you're crazy! They have an ambush!"
"So what if there's an ambush?" Julian hugged her tightly, his voice trembling, "Seraphina, I said, unless I die, no one can touch a single hair on your head."
Just as they were about to leave, a bullet whizzed by.
Julian suddenly turned around, blocking Seraphina with his back.
"Puff!"
Blood splattered on Seraphina's clean face.
"Julian!" Seraphina shouted heart-wrenchingly.
At that moment, all the entanglements of love and hate, all the lawyer's bottom lines, all became insignificant in front of this glaring red.
"Seraphina... don't cry." Julian fell into her arms, a miserable smile still on his lips, "I said, I would protect you well..."
Seraphina held him, feeling his body temperature dissipating bit by bit.
She first discovered that this man who was always lawless could actually have such a vulnerable moment.
Chapter 9
Julian Foster was sent to the ICU.
Seraphina Shen sat on the bench in the corridor, clutching that safety buckle that had already been stained red by blood.
That was what she had given him originally.
"Miss Shen, Master Julian's injury is very heavy, whether he can wake up depends entirely on tonight." The doctor's words were like a sharp blade, ruthlessly stabbing into her heart.
Seraphina looked at that red light above the operating room, her gaze gradually becoming firm.
This night, she did not sleep, but wrote the last defense speech of her career in the corridor.
Not to clear his name, but to strive for a possibility for him to live within the framework of the law.
"Julian, you must wake up." She prayed in her heart over and over again, "If you die, I will never live alone."
At three in the morning, the light went out.
Julian's life was saved, but he fell into a long coma.
Seraphina guarded his bedside every day, reading him the legal terms he hated most, telling him stories of their childhood.
She resigned from her position at the law firm and became a full-time "caregiver."
"Julian, when you wake up, we'll leave here."
"Go to that island you've always wanted to go to, and never care about these disturbances again."
She held his hand, feeling those once powerful large hands now lying coldly in her palm.
Chapter 10
Six months later.
A private hospital in New York.
Sunlight sprinkled on the white bedsheet, and Julian Foster's fingers moved slightly.
He slowly opened his eyes, and the first thing that came into view was Seraphina Shen's face, which had thinned a lot but was still beautiful.
"Seraphina..." His voice was so hoarse it was almost inaudible.
Seraphina looked up abruptly, tears instantly bursting from her eyes, "Julian! You're finally awake!"
Julian laboriously raised his hand, wanting to touch her face, but it was tightly held by Seraphina and pressed against her cheek.
"Lawyer Shen, why are you... still here?"
"Julian, don't even think about shaking me off in this life." Seraphina sobbed, "The prison disaster you owe me has to be paid back with the rest of your life."
Julian laughed, laughing as brightly as that little boy back then.
Later, Julian really cleaned up all of the Foster family's businesses and donated most of the assets to the legal aid foundation.
Because of his past actions, he was sentenced to three years in prison.
On the day of the sentencing, Seraphina wore a crisp black lawyer's uniform, standing at the defense table, making the last defense for the man she loved.
"My client has recognized his mistakes and made amends with his actions."
After the sentencing, before Julian was taken away, he gave Seraphina a deep look.
"Seraphina, wait for me to come out."
"I will always wait for you."
Three years later, the prison gates opened.
Julian wore a simple white shirt, saw the woman at the door holding a bouquet of starflowers, and walked over with large strides, holding her tightly in his arms.
"Lawyer Shen, I'm here to report."
"Mr. Foster, the rest of life is long, please guide me."
In this noisy city, their love finally crossed that lawless boundary and welcomed true fulfillment.
